Official translation
Official translations are most often needed for any documentation which is going to be seen in court, educational establishments, or other government bodies outside of one’s home country, and can be necessary for everything from immigration paperwork to international business contracts.
Sometimes although called a “sworn translation,” “certified translation or “translation with an official stamp,” it’s ultimately the same document.
Companies use official translation mainly to preserve authenticity and integrity of their documents.
Please note that an official translation involves a longer procedure than a standard translation.
Some examples of documents required:
For private use:
Passport / Birth certificate / Marriage certificate / Criminal record / Driving license / Diplomas / Transcripts / Bank statements / Notarized deeds / Contracts and Patents to court proceedings…
For business use:
Business contracts / Tenders / Market studies / Patents / Court rulings / Internal guidelines…
Many countries require businesses to submit official translations for compliance with international regulations, especially in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and technology. Official translation ensures that documents meet these stringent requirements and protects companies from legal consequences.
What is an official translation?
An official translation (or “sworn translation”) is carried out by a legally sworn translator also called authorized translator.
A sworn translator is a professional who has been officially appointed by a legal authority to translate legal documents. These translators bear legal responsibility for their translations, that’s why official translations cost more than general translations. There are also fewer sworn translators than general translators.
